The Quilt Show

I just saw this updated on Bejeweled Quilts by Barb and wanted to share with everyone!
The Quilt show is opening up their website beginning Friday, March 15, through Sunday, March 17, and there will be terrific prizes from companies we know and love like Bernina, GAmmill, Superior Threads, AccuQuilt, C&T Publishing, RJR Fabric. Ricky and Alex will have gift baskets to give away too. The grand prize is a new BErnina 550QE sewing machine! You get free access to over 140 shows.

Why are they doing this? As most of you know it is National Quilt Day March 16th and this is their way of helping us celebrate.

If you are not familiar with The Quilt Show, maybe you should take a gander over there. You will find all kinds of fun projects and tons of videos by Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson. Just sit your computer next to your sewing machine and take advantage of the videos while you sew. Can't think of a better way to celebrate than that!! Prizes too!!

FNSI Results

I had a great time sewing last night.  It has been so long I had forgot how much I really enjoy sewing.

Worked on my Across the Sea Quilt top last night.  I started this around September 2011, it was a QAL hosted by FairyFace Designs that I didn't finish.  Check out the quilt tops for the Across the Sea QAL posted in the Flickr group.  I did get all of the fabric cut and paired and some of the sewing done and 6 quilt blocks completed back in 2011.  Last night I completed an additional 7 blocks.  Took my time lining it up and pinning when needed.  My corners were matching up perfectly.  Looking great!

Thought I would share one of my favorite spaces in my house...my sewing space.

Happy New Year!!  For me 2013 is a New Beginning.  A year of no more procrastinating.  A year of setting goals and taking action.  It is all starting with the challenge I have given myself, "365 Days of Fitness Blogging."  I am taking an unconventional way to keep me accountable and motivate me to "stick with it" on my path to weight loss.  I am asking you to join me and follow my progress.  I know the more people I have watching and cheering for me, keeping me accountable, the more successful I will be.  I have created a blog button, please grab it and share it with your friends and follow me on my fitness blog.  Thank you so much for your support!!!

Happy New Year everyone!

This is a great time to reflect on our goals for the new year.  I like to do this often as my goals change. Be detailed with your goals, the more detailed you are the more likely you will go after them.  Then take action within the first 24 hours after setting them.  For example, is one of your goals to lose weight, then within the first 24 hours join a gym, buy a DVD workout program, go on a 30 minute walk.  Do something!  I really believe taking action right away can be the key to your success.  I mean, really, without taking action it's not a goal it is a "dream".

I wish for you a spectacular 2013!

More Hexagons

What a great Saturday night, Dirty Dancing on t.v. and hexis!  Have had this project going for a while now.  No deadline so no real urgency to get it done.  Basted a bunch last night and snipped ends to get them all organized.  I am up to 350 hexis!  I honestly have no idea how many it will take as I haven't decided on a pattern.  At first I was thinking of a traditional Grandmother's Garden but I have seen so many great uses of hexis that I haven't decided yet.  I have done everything myself, to printing and cutting out the paper templates for each hexi and cutting the 2 inch squares.  Below is a little bit about my process.

Pile of Hexis - I love all of my different fabric colors I am using.

Here is my 2 X 2 inch square that I cut.  I know I have seen people who use hexi cut fabric.  I have never tried this and it may work better.  For me it is easy to cut 2 inch squares and quickly baste the squares with the paper hexi.

I do print sheets of paper with rows of hexagons.  My hexi's all have 1 inch sides.

To start basting I fold two sides around one point, starting on the right side I pull the thread through to the back (paper side) and then go back up right by the spot I came through. Repeat at each point.

I chain piece several on one piece of thread.  Here you can see the back and front when done basting.

All 350 Hexagons all neat in a row!

Jewelry Making, sort of...

Thursday night I had the itch to do something.  So I decided to break out my jewelry making supplies and try my hand with some wire wrapping.

First I did a pair of earrings for my daughter.  Now really they were pretty much already done, all you had to do is add the ear wires.  Nice thing about these is it only cost me $2 to make these.  If I would have bought them in the store completely put together it would have cost me a lot more.

Now for some fun with wire wrapping.  Please note this is the first time I have done this.  I still feel like I am all thumbs when holding the pliers, wire and beads.  I used 22 gauge silver plated wire and a straight pin for the bottom 2 beads.

Happy Halloween

Handing out candy to the trick or treaters!
Happy Halloween everyone!  I know it has been ages since I have posted.  Well it has been ages since I have been able to do anything "crafty".  I have decided to change that and make time.

So for Halloween I decided to try my hand at something new.  I added rhinestones to a plain long sleeve t-shirt.  I decided to go with one of my favorite monster themed shows, True Blood.  Yep, I'm a Trubie!

I traced the letters on the shirt that I wanted with one of my chalk pens, than started glueing.  I had no idea it would take as long as it did!  Over 4 hours!!

I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Froggy Blanket

Was in JoAnn's one day and spotted this cute little froggy cuddly crib quilt.  Well, I just happen to know the sweetest little 2 year old who loves frogs.  Of course I had to snatch it up!  I finally got around to doing it last night and it turned out really cute.  It is very soft, I kept petting the fabric!  I can't wait to give it to Brynn! :)

FNSI Results - 10/21

Started the Christmas cathedral window table topper Friday.  Had to work all weekend, about ready to go to work now too, so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.

This is the first time I have done this block and I think it is going really well!  I can't wait till I get to the hand sewing part.  :)
